"Profiles of Pacific Women"
Who are your tireless volunteers to end violence against women? You are invited to write a profile on this person who has tirelessly volunteered as an individual or work through an organization to end violence against women. Candidates must have a long held proven commitment to gender equality and the rights of women through her work to end violence against women, and must have been active in the 1980’s to date.
These women may have
- Been highly active in lobbying governments to: change discriminatory legislation and/or constitutions; develop and implement national action plans; invest more in prevention particularly through long-term campaigns and support for multi-sectoral approaches to prevention and protection of women from violence
- Acted as an inspirational role model and mentor to the younger women of her decade
- Set up women’s crisis centers and other NGOs to work to end violence against women
- Fostered women’s leadership in the community
- Fostered partnerships and cooperation to end violence against women
Selected profiles will be included in a UNIFEM publication, “Profiles of Pacific Women” to be launched on International Women’s Day, 8 March, 2005. It is hoped that there will be at least 2 women profiled from each Pacific Island Country.

- Please include any images of the nominated person (if required photos can be returned)
