We stayed in Samoa in 2001 - flying in from NZ. I've never experienced anything like it. The island is everything you've ever dreamed of. You can find a waterfall pool, deep, refreshing and full of freshwater fish, all to yourself, all day ! We stayed at Agie Greys and Sinalei. The food at both hotels was sensational, and we are both vegeterian. Agie Greys wasn't a patch on Sinalei which is amongst the most amazing destinations I have ever been to. The Samoan people are too friendly to be human. The spectacle of a whole village waving to you as you drive by is quite heart warming. The beautiful Bahia temple gardens are worthy of a visit to Samoa just to see them. On Savi'i. the twisting shapes of the lava flows are an amazing geographical feature. You will have the most amazing time here - but don't expect any wild night life expect the amazing fire dancing displays performed by the locals. The only criticism, is the wild dog packs which become a little too inqusitive at times - raising a leg will usually send them packing. I wouldn't like to see them destroyed as they are part of the island too.
