Look maybe I am interpreting it is wrong, but the way the postings are worded about Hawai'i and Samoan influence in the development of our islands seems to try to down play the influence of the other island groups, namely Tahiti Tonga and the Marquesas Islands. Just read the other postings on this site and you'll see what i'm getting at. And also for the record I do support the idea of the rock playing Kamehameha Nui, I'm just happy as a Hawai'ian native that holywood is making a movie about us! and its not about people on vacation running around acting silly in grass skirts ,its about our history! Even though I do think there are better actors out there to play our beloved King, actors who look very much like him(like the grandfather on Whaleriders....strinking resemblance) I think that the rock is also a good candidate and wish him luck on his venture I hope he does well and also the movie does well! But it gets annoying when I hear my people(Samoans) let their pride get the best of them and try to re-tell history. No I am not hating! Yes I do acknowledge that Samoa has a profound influence in polynesia as far as race and culture but Samoa was not the only group out there to find Islands. Using Hawai'i as an example we see that Samoa had a BIG influence in the development of Hawai'i but it was not the first and only Island group to settle there. And even in Samoa we have people trying to retell history so that their family sounds bigger! Example? I used to date a man who said that his ancestors were of royal descent but when i talked to my elders they told me he comes from a long line of servants, who ironically served my family for years! Thats what I'm getting at! History is something that should not be changed but told the way it is! Its there for us to learn who we are where we came from to give us ground to stand on and a future to head to.....thats all i have to say.....comments? i welcom them
