Love will always prevail! In 1972, when I was 9 years old, my white mother met my black father (step- is not a term used in our home)and they married in 1973. Along with four siblings, I inherited 3 black siblings and an interracial sibling (of Korean and black decent) and we grew up as one big happy interracial family. Now you can only imagine the controversy that accompanied this reunion in 1972, when prejudice was still rampant in the south, especially in Florida where I was raised, but we endured along with my parents' marriage (they just celebrated their 30th anniversary)and have remained close as we could ever be!
My parents raised us an Americans not as colored people and I'm grateful to have been raised without prejudice, I know my parents did the right thing because their marriage has outlasted many of their friends who chose to marry within their own race. I believe that love will get anyone through diversity as my parents have proved and I feel privilaged to have such a wonderful mix of culture in my family.
