sure! it's possible for interracial couples to have similiar interests/desires.
arent couples suppose to have these mutual feelings for each other before they marry? hmm...my horoscope has indicated that im compatible with leos and geminis. :)
personally, i disagree with mr warren. no offence to anyone on this forum, but i wouldnt want to marry outside of my race. why? because i honestly feel that certain aspects of my culture could never be fully understood/accepted by any outsiders but my own kind. my proof? well, my experience was by observing numerous interracials unions between some of my uncles and non-samoan women. i watched these women congregate and share their dramatic stories about our faaSamoa. and it made me really think about interracial marriage. in fact, some don't even want anything to do with faaSamoa or samoans. do i blame them for feeling that way? No. I don't expect them to conform or overwhelm themselves because it's not their culture. not that it is impossible for a non-samoan to conform to our culture, but i have more than one reason why i perfer my own. on
the other hand, a samoan woman is capable of being dramatic as well...hehe, but in samoan society, everybody plays a role and we(tamaitais) are aware of our position/role.
i suppose the most "significant differences" could be compromised, but maybe that's my problem, i don't want any compromises when it comes to my culture/my aiga. i don't want to feel compelled...when i do settle down, i want to continue living my life the way i was brought up...(and that is the samoan way). so basically, i'll expect this kind of life with a samoan. hence the samoan saying, " when you marry a samoan, youll be marrying the
whole aiga".LOL. anyway, this is just an opinion from me. i suppose samoans born overseas might see it differently ...but yeah, for now... i'd like to go on a date with enrique iglesia's ...lol
so back to the article... Ummm, it all about personal preference. sometimes it depends on the interracial couple on how they feel/value
their heritages. i believe that if i didn't appreciate and love my culture, i would completely have a different stance on interracial marriage. but this is just me.
i know of many samoans here in the states that are totally digging the western concept of life
and could care less about the samoan way.
k....just me blabbin on..:)
