Good scientific justifications of the origins of Polynesia. Samoa is called "the cradle of Polynesia" because it is believed to be where the Polynesian migration started from. This is also based on the findings of Lapita pottery thanks to carbon-dating.

However, Thor Heyerdahl has made some famous claims of Polynesians coming from the Americas (South) whose canoes and raft boats carried by the tradewinds, sailed, found and peopled the islands of eastern Polynesia starting the peopling of the brown skinned part of the Pacific.

Oral history states that it was the families and ties that were defeated in war in Samoa who were exiled. Their journey took them to places like Tonga and other Polynesian Islands settling and establishing their own society and culture. The Samoan language is said to be the "original" Polynesian language and all others dialects... well who knows? We've very similar languages with Tokelau, Tuvalu, Tonga, Kiribati... These Polynesians islands also have their own interpretations of how it happened. Such is the nature of oral history.

If all points to Savaii then Im wondering what the people of Manu'a and Tutuila and Upolu were up to during this time, coz Savaii is the "youngest" island (the last to form) of the Samoan Archipelago. Supported by Samoan legends, many origins of our customs and culture started from Manu'a. Eg, the first fale ula was in Manu'a, the twins who brought the ato au to Samoa which changed tattooing from women to men were said to have lived in Fiti in the Island of Manu'a.

But this is a credible theory malo a Peter Ah Ching!

Just some views. A pleasant day everyone!!!
