Refreshment Break, Lalomanu, Aleipata, Upolu, Samoa

The coconut tree is the most important natural resource that the Samoans have. It is used to produce shelter, food, drink, rope and many other items. Not being used to exertion in the tropical sun leads to excessive fluid loss, but where there are coconut trees there is a refreshing source of liquid. Unfortunately not all Samoans still posses the ability to climb a coconut tree with nothing more thin a thin strip of bark, husk and then open the nut in less time than it takes to queue at a McDonalds. But if you are in the presence of one who can, you will be very grateful for their skill.
