Beatrice Faumuina finshes 12th and Seilala Su'a finishes 10th.

Faumuina, competing for New Zealand threw 58.69m in the womens discus, less than her throw of 61.33m in the qualifying round. Su'a, competing for the U.S., also failed to reach the distance she threw in qualifying, managing 59.85m. Both failed to enter the second stage of the finals.

Lisa Misipeka fails to qualify.

Lisa Misipeka, competing for American Samoa and bronze medalist in the women's world championship hammer-throw, failed to qualify for the finals of this event. Her best throw of 61.74m was below that required for automatic qualification and left her in 14th place out of the 28 starter. Only 12 go through to the finals.

Eric Fonoimoana wins Gold.

Fonoimoana and Blanton, competing in the men's beach volley for the U.S.A., beat their Brazilian opponents in two sets, 12 - 11, 12 - 9 in a closely fought game which lasted 1 hour 41 minutes.

Alesana Sione finishes 11th in weightlifting.

The American Samoan competitor scored a combined weight of 357.5kg, placing him 11th in a field of 14. The event was won by Hungarian, Tibor Stark, who lifted 425kg.

Bianca Jane Netzler fails to complete women's cycling road race.

Bianca Jane Netzler, competing for Samoa, was one of the 8 competitors who was beaten by the course. After completing 85.5 km, she was in 50th position at the end of lap 5, but was unable to finish lap 6 of the 7 lap course

Seilala Su'a qualifies for women's discus throw finals.

A throw of 61.88 metres saw Seilala Su'a, who is competing for the U.S.A., come third in her qualifying round and qualify as one of the twelve finalists. She failed to acheive the qualifying distance of 63.00 metres, but enters the finals in an overall position of 7th.

Beatrice Faumuina qualifies for women's discus throw finals.

A throw of 61.33 metres was enough to see Beatrice Faunmuina, who is representing New Zealand, go through as one of the twelve finalists. Although she failed to acheive the qualifying distance of 63.00 metres, her throw earned her a position of 9th out of a field of 32.

Fonoimoana and Blanton march on to finals.

It was a very closely fought semi-finals game against the Portugese team, but after 71 minutes the remaining men's U.S. beach volleyball team won through with a score of 15 - 12.

Fonoimoana and Blanton knock out fellow U.S. team in quarter-finals.

It took just 31 minutes for Fonoimoana and his partner to knock out the second U.S. entry in the men's beach volleyball competition. In a game which caused them very few problems they won with a score of 15 - 3.

Faafetai Iutana fails to qualify.

Faafetai Iutana suffered a resounding 11 - 0 defeat at the hands of the Pole, Artur Michalkiewicz, in the mens 76kg Greco-Roman wrestling elimination round.

Ofisa Ofisa finsihes 18th.

Ofisa Ofisa, of Samoa, managed a combined weight of 310kg in the snatch and clean and jerk competitions of the men's 85kg weightlifting competition. The best result in the field of twenty came from Greek, Pyross Dimas with 390kg.

Olivia Baker comes 8th.

Olivia Baker, competing for New Zealand in the women's 75+ kg weightlifting competition managed a combined weight of 235kg in the snatch and clean and jerk. The best result in the field of eleven came from Chinese competitor, Meiyuan Ding, with 300kg.

Kelsey Nakanelua fails to make semi-finals.

Kelsey Nakanelua, competing for American Samoa in the men's 100m came in 8th in heat 7, with a time of 10.93 seconds.

Pauga Lalau eliminated from boxing.

It 1 minutes 54 seconds into round 4 of his heavyweight boxing match against Sultanahmed Ibzagimov, when the referee stepped in to stop Pauga Lalau's fight following a telling head blow coming from a four-punch combination.

NZ women's softball team lose to Japan

Their 2 - 1 loss means that they finish the preliminary rounds in 6th place and do not progress any further in the competition.

Their 0 - 1 loss means that rather than going third, they are now placed 6th, and only have the USA and Japan to play if they wish to make it into the top 4.

New Zealand beats Cuba.

In their fourth game, the New Zealand women's softball team beat Cuba 6 - 2, in seven innings.

New Zealand destroyed by China.

This women's softball game which saw 10 runs, all from China, was the first in which Ruta Lealamanua did not spend the whole game on the bench. She was called in as replacement pitcher for 1 innings.

New Zealand are currently 5th in the table, with only four going through to the semi-finals, and another four games to play.

Fonoimoana and Blanton win again.

The U.S. beach volleyball team of Eric Fonoimoana and Dain Blanton had another good victory, against Germans Oetke and Scheuerpflug, winning 15-7, in just 37 minutes.

Kuresa Tupua knocked out of archery competition.

16 year old, Kuresa Tupua from American Samoa, faced formidable opposition in his eliminations match against first ranking Korean Yong-Ho Jang. Tupua was unable to hit the bullseye with any of his 18 arrows, whereas the Korean hit it 11 times. The score of 98 - 172 set a new Olympic record for Yong-Ho Jang.

New Zealand beats Canada.

Melisa Upu contributed one of the runs, in another 10 innings game which saw New Zealand beat Canada 3 - 2.

New Zealand have another 5 games to play before the places for the semi-finals will be fully decided. Their next match is against China.

Paparino Waterhouse bows out of the judo competition

Paparino Waterhouse failed to leave his mark in bouts against Giuseppe Maddaloni of Italy and Hassen Moussa of Tunisa, where he was beaten by an ippon.

New Zealand loses to Australia.

The New Zealand women's softball team which contains two Samoans Ruta Lealamanua who was on the bench and Melisa Upu who was playing centre field lost 3 - 2 to Australia in a game which ran for 10 innings.

New Zealand still have to play Canada, China, Cuba, Italy, USA and Japan before the outcome of the preliminary rounds will be known.

Fonoimoana and Blanton proceed to next round.

Eric Fonoimoana and his team mate Dain Blanton easily beat their German opposition, 15-7, in just 37 minutes. These two representatives of the U.S. Beach Volleyball team will meet Kjemperug and Hoidalen of Norway in the 1/8th finals on Friday 21st September.

Has Kuresa Tupua lost sight of his target?

At just 16 years old, Kuresa Tupua from American Samoa, is the youngest competitor in the men's archery competition at the Sydney Olympics.

His ranking round did not go well; he came in 64th out of 64 with a score of 419. This means that on Monday he will enter the elimination round having to beat Yong-Ho Jang of Korea who is ranked 1st with a score of 665. We wish him all the best, for what must seem like a daunting task.
