Thursday 5th March - Solomon Islands -
Honiara
Another day at
the office, but what a delight it is to go to work in sandals, shorts and a tee-shirt.
It's not just that the weather is condusive to this sort of attire, but everything seems
far more relaxed in the islands. My only complaint is the ferocity of the air-conditioning
in my icebox, if I had a jumper with me I would probably be wearing it.
In the evening we ate at the Sea King restaurant, just outside Chinatown
and overlooking the seafront. We arrived just after 6:30pm, their opening time and even
though we were the first people their our food arrived over the period of a couple of
hours. We were told later this is because their is only one person in the kitchen. The
internal decor is very Chinese and was shipped in from Taiwan, its just a shame the
exterior is the same putrid colour of pink as the Elephant and Castle shopping complex.
The food was delicious, the two items that really stood out were the steamed garlic prawns
and the lobster in a tomato sauce. One item that rather fooled us was the lemon chicken;
when it arrived it bore more resemblence to sweet and sour chicken. A very nice feature of
this restaurant was the provision of a childrens play area. |
