35th Pacific Islands Forum Leaders’ Meeting, 05-07 August 2004

Cabinet has approved of the 35th Pacific Islands Forum Leaders’ Meeting, which will be held in Samoa, from the 05-07 August 2004.

Prior to the Leader’s Forum, the Forum Officials Committee Session will take place from the 03-04 August. The Post Forum Dialogue will take place from the 09-10 August, at the conclusion of the Leaders’ Forum. All these Sessions will take place at the Hotel Kitano Tusitala.

The Official Opening of the 35th Pacific Islands Forum will take place at the Malae o Tiafau, Mulinuu, on Thursday 05th August 2004, at 5:00pm.

Ah Liki Construction Co. Ltd awarded Fagalii Box Culvert Contract

Cabinet has approved the recommendation by the Tenders Board giving the Contract for the Construction of the Fagalii Box Culvert to Ah Liki Construction Co. Ltd, at a bid price of $615,802.00 Tala.

An invitation for Tenders’ Bids was advertised and four (4) contractors submitted bids. Ah Liki Construction Co. Ltd was selected, having provided the lowest bid and meeting all the necessary requirements and conditions.

Appointment of the Chief Executive Officer of the Airport Authority

Cabinet has approved the reappointment of Fepuleai Rimoni Aiafi to the position of Chief Executive Officer of the Airport Authority.

Two applicants put forward their applications to the Select Panel for this position, of which Fepuleai was successful.

Fepuleai began his schooling locally before continuing his tertiary education in achieving Bachelor and Masters Degrees overseas. Fepuleai holds this post for a second term of three years.

Report of the Second Asia-Pacific Ministerial Meeting on HIV/AIDS, Thailand, 11 July 2004, and the Report of the Meeting with National Kidney Foundation of Singapore, 12-13 July 2004

Cabinet has approved the Report of the Second Asia-Pacific Ministerial Meeting on HIV/AIDS that took place in Thailand on the 11th July 2004, and the Meeting with the National Kidney Foundation of Singapore, which was held from the 12-13th July 2004.

The Second Asia-Pacific Ministerial Meeting on HIV/AIDS looked at achievements of previous Meetings and focused on multi-sectoral action and the important role of political leadership in response to HIV/AIDS in the region. The Meeting with the National Kidney Foundation of Singapore (NFK) as detailed in the Report, included discussions of: clarification of Samoa’s needs with regards the establishment of a Renal Dialysis Unit; and, affirmation of NFK support of this initiative through its provision of specialist training for local team, renal dialysis machines and equipment, as well as a team of experts to initially start up the unit.

The Hon. Minister of Health, Mulitalo Siafausa Vui, led Samoa’s delegation to the abovementioned Meetings.
