Samoa becomes member of ‘the International Plant Convention’

Government Press Secretariat - 11 June 2004

Cabinet approval has been given for Samoa to become a member of the International Plant Convention (IPPC).

The IPPC is a link to the World Trade Organisation, and is an international treaty whose purpose is to secure a common and effective action to prevent the spread and introduction of pests of plants and plant products, and to promote appropriate measures for their control especially those products used in trade.

It is essential for Samoa to be a member of this Convention to ensure the protection of its environment and agricultural products made available for trading purposes. Countries making up the Pacific region are joined in their attempts to secure a level trading field in which they can easily make their products available.
